Conwy and Surroundings

We’re having a wonderful visit with Danny and Maureen in Conwy, our second time to visit this beautiful corner of Wales.  Maureen is a professional pianist and teacher.  Danny’s career was in film and documentaries. He’s now enjoying a more leisurely life.

We drove to the top of this mountain, the Great Orme, and then hiked around the edges to take in the glorious views of the bays. We probably walked a few miles up there and then later walked to town and back for dinner.  This was a must needed walk after all the hours we’ve spent in the car. We figured all in all we walked 5-6 miles.

This mountain was heavily mined in the old days for copper and granite.  One of these pictures above shows the remains of one small area that was dugout for granite.

The Conwy castle is ever present and makes for an interesting backdrop. Our last visit included a thorough visit of the inside so we are just enjoying it from outside this time. BTW you’ll notice one family trait that both Danny and Robert share, bushy eyebrows.

We walked across the Conwy bridge at low tide which offered some interesting photos.

There are so many pretty towns and places to see here.  The landscape is so varied with different types of mountains and vegetation.  They’re having a drought this summer. Apparently last summer was too wet.

I spent a day shopping in the town of Llandudno, which is 10 minutes away  Robert and cousin Danny spent the day developing family websites.

Llandudno is a holiday town and was pretty full since this is a long weekend. It sort of has the feel of Coney Island.

Later in the afternoon we visited Penyschnant Conservation Center, a home which was recently turned into a nonprofit and is dedicated to preserving the natural environment.  For one reason, there are many species of birds.

This lamb found his way into the garden looking for food since the fields are so dry. He was munching away on these red berries.

As I write this, Robert and. Maureen are exploring the music of Revel on the piano. Tomorrow we are off early.
