Rosscarbery and the Best Views in West Cork Co.

It was another grey day but the sun finally made an appearance as we headed to the town of Roscarbery and the view the family here loves the most. It also happens to be at the junction where the daughter works on an organic farm.

While standing on the road enjoying the view suddenly a man of about 5’5 appeared with is his dog Bullocks. It was if a leprechaun had appeared. He was a bit scruffy, in a bright green tee shirt and reeked of cologne. When Robert asked him what he did in life he said “I spend my time watching the clouds and the water”. We finally made out that he wanted a ride to the town where we were headed. Fortunately we left Bullocks behind, forlorn in the middle of the road. He just sat and watched as we drove off. We were told that Bullocks eats a lot and does a lot of breeding. We expected to see a lot of black and white sheep dogs along the way. Robert caught a photo of the leprechaun from over his shoulder in the car.

This leprechaun was very chatty and kept mentioning names of music groups sort of here and there rather unconnected and random. Fleetwood Mac - “you can go your own way” later he asked where I was from and when told American, he said “oh, I’m so worried about Gaza.” That was the most coherent thing he said. As he left the car he said “there’s a great song Thank You, Led Zeppelin”.

Further down this small 1.5 lane road we came across a large group of folks who were bowling in the road. A little different from our style of bowling. Apparently they roll the ball to see who can roll it the furthest. It must have been a bit frustrating to play as there seemed to be a steady flow of cars. There was a referee at each end of the game stopping traffic in order to play.

Finally in Roscarbery we visited the cathedral, rather small but, said to be a Cathedral because the Bishop used to be stationed there.

Here is the towers of the cathedral from the back. We also found this charming “harvest” lady of sorts sitting inside.

Other interesting sites we saw along the way, were more green hills and this really cool floating water park that kids were playing on. They were all dressed as if prepared to fall into the water..

It was a very interesting day and we actually got some sunshine.
The hydrangeas here are the most amazing colors.
