Strokestown and the Environs

We expected Strokestown to be quite small, as in a crossroads but it turned out to be much bigger -several crossroads and kind of a small main square.

The local hotel where we park the car in front in order to get Wi-Fi service. Had a great cappuccino earlier today.

Passed this wall earlier.  They’ve cemented in spiky stones - maybe to keep people from sitting on it.

Europeans are much more conscious of eating high quality food and sustainability.

The cottage where we stay is outside of town on the side of a small mountain.we took a photo of it from 11 miles north and another closer up.  This is the house where we stay  it belonged th Robert’s cousin Merrily Harpur who unfortunately died last December. She also had a house in the UK which we will stay at in a couple of weeks. She always shared this home with family and friends. The family is keeping it for all to use.

Merrily was an artist and primarily a cartoonist. Her cartoons were posted weekly in the Guardian.  To learn more about Merrily https://www.theguardian.com/books/2025/jan/15/merrily-harpur-obituary

It’s still very green around here and entirely farm land - lots of cows and sheep. And of course lots of windmills. As you see there are many on the mountain above the house.

Here are a few more photos of spots around Strokestown.
