Something New In Rome

Every now and then something new pops up in Rome. My friend Barb and I went to this new museum, The Centrale Montemartini, which is located in an old power plant on via Ostiense (for those of you who know Rome). They have an amazing collection of antiquity that was found over the years when digging up various places around the city.  The art next to the machines makes an interesting contrast. It’s surprising that the power plant could be cleaned up so well!

We spent a few days with Robert’s high school friend, Alexis and wife Donna. Their daughter, Lucy, who kindly gave up her bedroom for us, was with her friends this evening.  Alexis is a movie director and Donna has her own practice in aromatherapy. Here is a peak inside the restaurant where we ate.  It was such a pleasant evening so we ate outside.

Barbara lives down the Appia Antique which is a rural part of Rome. Here is her latest cat rescue, a sweet little 4 week old cat that was abandoned by its mom. We ate at a wonderful restaurant on the Appia Nuova near her house.

Here are a few other interesting things we’ve found around Rome. One photo is a pinkish parking sign reserving a parking spot for moms. We saw something similar in Ireland which I forgot to share, so here it is - it’s the gray one for parents and wheelchairs.

This last photo is a villa sitting on a hill across the river from where we stood.  It’s unusual because it is there on its own surrounded by lots of empty land and trees  it’s a wonder that the empty land hasn’t been built on.
