The Beauty of Rome

Here are a few more photos from the last couple of days walking around Rome. It’s as beautiful as ever.

This restaurant features 100 different types of tiramisu. We didn’t try them here but we had a really good one a couple of nights ago.

It used to be that you could recognize a female Gypsy a mile away because they wore tradition clothes.  Not any more. The younger generation now dress like regular teenagers so you really have to be on alert. Barbara and I had a close call yesterday getting on a bus. Luckily for us there were some vigilant Italian women who caught wind to the fact that these girls were on to us and intervened to keep them from sealing our purses. A close call!

Just have to walk past the forum when in Rome and it’s hard to not pass the Vitorio Emmanuel piazza pictured above.

Here are a few other tid bits of Rome.

This was a great opportunity to bring together old friends from different parts of my life overseas.  Introduced recent arrivals to Rome with former FAO colleagues. We also got together with Ellen, another friend from FAO but forgot to take photos. It was a quick lunch and Ellen took a two hour train ride to get here.

We visited with Martha Nuendorfer, a former colleague from FAO. We were lucky to catch her over her busy schedule of travels in France.we had lunch at Volpetes which has been transformed from the Tavola Calda to this upscale enoteca.

We’ve had such a wonderful time and felt so at home seeing old friends. It seemed strange to be leaving Rome!
